Thoughts & Collabs

I've been loving how collaborative, open, honest and helpful the strategist community has become in the past few years.

Below are a few of my contributions to the cause. After all, we gain more knowledge through collective experience.

Strands of Genius

I've always been a fan of the nomadic consultancy duo Rosie & Faris of Genius Steals. Their biweekly newsletter is filled with creative bouts of inspiration, from brilliant studies to outlandish ads. I had a chance to guest feature as a curator one week and had a blast finding the content.

Breaking into Advertising & Strategic Planning

The comms planning team at BBDO had a blog, and I wrote a piece about breaking into the advertising industry. Half of it focuses specificaly on breaking into our particular craft - strategy. From owning your quirks to eating grasshoppers (really), I share 10 tips for cracking into this challenging career.

Planning Dirty

Another great resource for all planners, Julian Cole's Planning Dirty hivemind is chock full of collaborative decks. It's actually also how I landed my internship on his team at BBDONY. I've helped out with the Brand Actions library every year (be it doing research, design or copyediting), which is a deck full of 200+ examples of the best advertising every year across various industries.

The Jog

I spent 2+ years in NYC trying to break into strategy and towards the end (ironically right when I broke in), I met a passionate crew of other hungry up-and-comers. We all shared resources,  our networks and helped one another push through. The Jog was inspired by Mark Pollard's Sweathead workshops where we all met. I actually came up with the name, a light-hearted pun in the vein of exercise, but also about having patience and not giving up on our pursuit. The Jog met regularly for happy hours, case study sessions, candid chats about salary and even hosted a few events of our own.

Why You Should Take More Risks

I shared a mix of my personal and professional story on this LinkedIn post about riding the waves of life. I talk about my spontaneous move across the planet, being laid off, and how pushing yourself well past your comfort zone is the best thing you can do.
